Missing English

This week, we did not meet for English because our teacher was on-leave. Everyone in our class was happy because of that. But, her being gone for a week didn't mean we didn't have work to do... so she gave us an assignment. Our assignment was about the story of Pecos Bill, America's greatest cowboy. Having read the story, I came to know that the first cowboy in America (Pecos Bill) lived with coyotes. The things that cowboys usually do originated from him- the using of a lasso to catch animals, the using of spurs for them to wear on their boots, the rounding up of cattle and driving herds to railroad stations where they could be shipped to market, and most of all the singing of cowboy songs.

The story of Pecos Bill actually concentrated on the cause and effect relationship. This kind of relationship shows a logical way of how things are related. Through it, you can learn many interactions that occur between objects. This clearly implies that everything in this world was made because of a reason. If one is missing, a relationship will be unbalanced.

2nd Grading

After the test, we learned about getting information from a newspaper. We were given editorial cartoons and were asked to interpret them and explain the message they want to portray. We also learned about arriving at the meanings of a word through affixes; this lesson has a connection with one of our 1st Grading lessons. Then we learned about the past perfect tense. We made dialogues/scripts of skits applying what we learned about the lesson mentioned above.

On the third week of this month, we didn't meet for English subject two times because of the Am-among Festival. The festival was a bit fun... but quite disappointing (at least for me).

I have listed below the bad and good points about it based on my observations:

Bad

1. The municipal plaza is too small to accommodate the people who wanted to watch the presentations.

2. There was no shade above the presentation area.

3. No food was provided for the band members and those who joined the parade.

4. The time schedule was not followed ( most of the activities started late).

Good

1. The different barangays of Bontoc cooperated by joining the different contests.

2. The presentations performed by the different schools, organizations, and the town folks were beautiful.

3. It aimed to show that the people of Bontoc treasure their culture and their beloved hometown which is already 100 years old.

4. It also united the people and promoted peace.

After the festival, we moved to the next chapter of our books and learned about getting meaning of a word through context clues. The context clues are synonym, antonym, association with a word, contrast with another word, and meaning embedded in the sentence.
For this lesson, we had a fun quiz and my group got an almost perfect score.
